"Sarah Palin" writes op-ed in Post
The Britney Spears of governors comments on cap and trade in today’s WaPo. While rambling incoherently for most of the piece and assuming that cap and trade will simply eliminate energy entirely, she actually makes a valid point in the 3rd to last paragraph!
“Do we want to control our energy supply and its environmental impact? Or, do we want to outsource it to China, Russia and Saudi Arabia? Make no mistake: President Obama’s plan will result in the latter.”
Despite the fact that no one wants to admit it, Sarah Palin is right. Not that she is saying something profound, we all read this two weeks ago in bberg and so already know that,
“importing finished gasoline and other refined products in the US from other countries, under the current cap and trade plan set out by Waxmen-Markey, would be cheaper for integrated energy companies than it would be to produce and refine that same shit within the US.” (i paraphrased that)
so, essentially, yeah, the cap and trade plan as we currently know it, incentivizes integrated energy companies to move production abroad, or, buy more from OPEC, etc.
since exporting production isnt gonna create jobs in the US, Sarah Palin is right, “[the bill] would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.”
But of course, Sarah starts chirping it up about her dumb idea to drill in what Sarah calls but a “tiny, 2,000-acre corner of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge” and what I call a “2,000-acres of NOT HER LAND since she is just a tiny, ephemeral ex governor of the state which is currently inhabited by humans but who knows who will inhabit that land and for what reason post-apx so stop asking for permission to destroy it.”
man. overall, how did this country get so far away from the point of any environmental legislation, which is to ensure the sustainability of the communities-economically, physically, culturally, etc.? the Waxmen-Markey bill as we currently know it will not sustain the US economy and Palin’s nat gas idea will not sustain the US natural resources [bc nat gas is considered to have low emissions even though it still comes from the fucking earth]. so that’s that. revise to incentivize wind/solar and moVE ON.
